EMA - Linear Positioning System for Gamma Calibrators

The Linear Positioning System (LPS) will enable precise, repeatable positioning of radiation detection instruments along the beam axis and at beam centerline to support accurate calibration and testing within the laboratory. The system provides automated X- and Z-axis motion, a high-capacity instrument platform, and an irradiator mounting stand to ensure consistent geometry and reliable measurement configurations.

The Linear Positioning System (LPS) will be used in a radiation calibration laboratory to accurately position radiation survey instruments and dosimetry devices at known distances and vertical alignments relative to a radiation source.

X-Axis (beam axis)

• Minimum linear travel: 9 meters
• Function: Adjust distance between radiation source and target
• Positioning accuracy: 1 mm
• Automation: Stepper-motor driven
• User interface for commanded position entry, display of actual position, and Instrument Offset capability to compensate for instruments not centered on the platform

Z-Axis (vertical positioning)

• Minimum travel: 30 cm below the beam centerline
• Function: Vertical alignment of instrument at beam centerline
• Positioning accuracy: 1 mm
• Stepper-motor driven and fully automated
• User interface identical in capability to X-axis

Instrument Platform Requirements

• Platform size: 50 cm × 50 cm
• Surface: 1 cm grid engraving for visual alignment
• Holes drilled and tapped at 10 cm intervals
• Must allow jigs and fixtures to be bolted and reproducibly placed
• Load capacity: ≥100 lbs, with no measurable deflection under full load

Irradiator Stand Requirements

• A fixed stand or table must be installed at one end of the LPS to support the agency's portable, manually operated irradiators
• Load capacity: ≥250 lbs
• Height: Beam line located 1.0-1.5 meters above finished floor

Controls & Interface

• Limit switches, homing functions, and safety interlocks must be included
• Motion control must prevent overshooting and provide smooth, repeatable travel

Accuracy & Performance

• Linear positioning accuracy: 1 mm (both axes)
• Repeatability: 1 mm or better

Documentation & Deliverables

• Mechanical drawings and dimensional specifications
• Operation and maintenance manual
• Recommended spare parts list

Installation

• Vendor shall ship or transport all components and any tools or equipment necessary for installation to 1301 Knotts Street, Springfield, IL 62703
• Vendor shall perform onsite installation and acceptance testing

The State may award to the lowest priced responsive and responsible Bidder whose Bid meets the specified criteria. The State will award by lowest overall total price.

The Bidder shall submit the listed documents in BidBuy under the Attachments tab: Vendor Disclosure or IPG Active Registered Vendor Disclosure, *Offer to the State of Illinois*, and *Contract*.

All questions pertaining to this solicitation must be submitted in writing to the Information Contact no later than 7 days before bid opening.

The contract will have an initial term commencing upon date of execution and ending on **June 30, 2027**. There are no renewal options.

All equipment must be received and installed by **June 30, 2027**.
