What the bid is for

The City of Ames is soliciting proposals from qualified contractors to provide snow and ice removal and related services at Ames Transit Agency bus stop locations and end point turnarounds within the city of Ames during the 2026/27 winter season with the option for 4 additional 12 month contract renewal periods.

Scope

Furnish all labor, materials, equipment, tools, insurance, and other components necessary for snow and ice removal and related services at Ames Transit Agency bus stop locations within the city of Ames during the 2026/27 winter season. This will include 91 stops within the City of Ames. An additional 34 stops on the ISU campus and 2 end point turnarounds and their sidewalks may be included.

All snow, ice, etc., will be removed from concrete "bus stop pads", associated walkways, in and around shelters, on and around benches, and from end point turnarounds. [...] A five-foot wide path shall be cleared from curb to shelter, bench, and/or through-sidewalk; sidewalks are included where necessary to accomplish this and to reach the curb. [...] Snow and ice are to be removed from the full area of the concrete bus stop pad and associated areas described above.

The Contractor will furnish and apply an ice-melt or a sand mixture if appropriate to prevent the public from slipping, falling, etc.

Generally, the Contractor will commence snow removal operations within two hours after any official Ames snowfall has reached two (2) inches - if it is no longer snowing and street plowing activities at the prescribed locations are not currently in operation. [...] Snow removal shall be completed at all stops within twenty-four hours after commencement of work unless otherwise specifically approved by the Owner's Representative.

Priority stops shall be cleared first. All American with Disability Act (ADA) stops shall have priority snow and ice removal.
