The City of Independence (“City”) is requesting proposals from qualified engineering firms to provide professional electrical engineering design services for infrastructure improvements at Riverside Park & Ralph Mitchell Zoo.
The existing electrical infrastructure serving Riverside Park & Ralph Mitchell Zoo is aging and in need of modernization. Evergy, the local electric utility provider, has agreed to assume ownership and operation of the electrical service infrastructure upon completion of the proposed upgrades.
In 2023, the City retained an electrical engineering firm to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the park’s existing electrical systems and develop recommendations for modernization and future service distribution. The City is now seeking professional engineering and design services to implement the recommendations identified in that assessment and prepare the necessary construction documents for the project.
The selected consultant shall provide professional electrical engineering services necessary to design and coordinate all planned improvements to the electrical distribution system serving Riverside Park & Ralph Mitchell Zoo as outlined in the 2023 infrastructure assessment.
Utility power currently enters the park from Oak Street via overhead service. The City intends to replace aging infrastructure and establish a modern electrical distribution system that meets current utility and code requirements.
The project is anticipated to include, but is not limited to:
The recommendations identified in the 2023 electrical infrastructure assessment shall serve as the basis for design. These recommendations include the electrical service improvements described below, which will be completed in the following phases.
