Red Team review

Also called: Red Team

What is Red Team review?

A Red Team review is a formal review of a complete proposal draft in which reviewers act as government evaluators. They score the draft against Section M, record strengths, weaknesses and deficiencies, and check compliance with Section L, so the team can fix problems before final production and submission.

How a Red Team works

Reviewers get the solicitation, the compliance matrix and a scoring sheet built from Section M. They read the draft as evaluators would, often using the same adjectival ratings the agency will use, and write findings that explain what would raise the score.

Afterward the team triages the findings, assigns fixes and confirms each one is closed. Time for recovery is part of the plan, not an afterthought.

Where it fits

Red Team follows the Pink Team and precedes the Gold Team. It is the review most likely to change the score, because it judges the full content against the actual evaluation factors.

Common mistakes

Holding it on an unfinished draft, using reviewers who wrote the sections, line-editing instead of scoring, and scheduling it so late that findings cannot be fixed.

Strong Red Team findings name the factor, quote the passage, say what an evaluator would record (a strength, a weakness or a deficiency) and suggest the fix. Findings written that way can be assigned and closed one by one, and the proposal manager can see at a glance which sections still put the score at risk.

Red Team review in ProposalWorkspace

In ProposalWorkspace the Red Team date sits on the proposal deadlines with reminder emails, reviewers mark up the draft with tracked changes and comments, and the AI can score each drafted section against its compliance row from 0 to 100 with Pass, Warning or Fail and the reason.

Red Team review: questions and answers

What is the goal of a Red Team review?

To score the full draft the way evaluators will, against Section M, and find the weaknesses and deficiencies while there is still time to fix them.

How long before the deadline should Red Team happen?

Early enough to act on the findings. Teams plan backward from submission so production and Gold Team still have room after the fixes.
