What the bid is for

The purpose of this Request for Proposals (RFP) is to create a Vendor List for the provision of tree pruning, tree removal, and other tree care services for various schools and offices of the Hawaii State Department of Education. Orders for services are not guaranteed and will be on an "as-needed" basis during the agreement period.

The primary goals of the tree maintenance services are to address and reduce actual and potentially hazardous tree conditions, keep the tree risks to people, property and site operations as low as reasonably achievable, and protect them from injury or damage.

The Hawaii State Department of Education (STATE) will partner with CONTRACTOR(s) to provide tree maintenance services to various Hawaii State Department of Education schools and facilities in the following District(s) and Complex(es):

  • Oahu: Leeward District, Farrington Complex, Kailua-Kalaheo, Kalani-Kaimuki Complexes, McKinley-Roosevelt, Castle-Kahuku Complexes
  • Hawaii: District III (Hookena-Kealakehe), District IV (Paauilo-Waikoloa)

[...] Tree pruning and maintenance shall include but is not limited to crown cleaning, removal of adjacent weed trees and palms, crown reduction, crown raising and directional pruning, thinning, and crown restoration.

Pest Treatment for Susceptible Ficus Species

For sites with Chinese banyan (Ficus microcarpa), weeping banyan (F. benjamina), and other susceptible Ficus species, CONTRACTOR’s Qualified Arborist shall report recommendations to the CA, POC or other authorized representative, via the method designated by the STATE, for the treatment of the trees affected by stem gall wasp and lobate lac scale. [...] Trunk injection treatment only shall be performed.
